sick fella and a sad mama

Yesterday was a tough day for my lil guy. First he somehow managed to get a splinter in his hand from his crib. I'm guessing it's from where the beaver chewed off part of the wood. So after we got that out of his hand (which was TERRIBLE) I noticed he wasn't acting like himself, and the kid just KEPT pooping. Every diaper was poop, and it was so much that he got a diaper rash which he has only had once before when we used pampers. Then came the fever, and the refusal to eat anything. So basically he had a splinter and stomach bug all in one day. The day was spent taking lots of naps, and watching lots of sprout. The only good thing about it was that this mama got LOTS of cuddles, which never happens. Today he is feeling better and the poopy diapers have stopped (crossing my fingers)

This is a picture from last week, he is obsessed with this cat at my mom's house and he kept giving it kisses! Be still my heart.

Whenever we are having a particular bad day, I stop and breathe and remember how lucky I am. I remember that nothing is owed to me, in a blink everything could be taken away. That really puts things in perspective. Today was a little rough, on top of feeling a little nauseous here and there, M wanted to test my patience with EVERYTHING. oh, toddlerhood. It's gratifying and amazing and tons of fun but there are days when it kicks my ass. And today was one of those days. After a nap we woke up feeling a little better and had some good old fashioned fun playing with a bucket, water, and bubbles. Hanging out with this little guy and watching him find such joy in everything instantaneously puts me in a better mood.  Here are some pictures from the last week or so

Sundays are for...

Lots of naps, banana pancakes, chasing a giggling, naked baby through the house and dancing to yo gabba gabba. Oh Sunday I wish you were every day of the week.

M is 1!

We celebrated M's first birthday on Sunday at my mom's house. I am still in disbelief that my little peanut is one years old. How did that happen? It is bittersweet. I love watching him grow, seeing his interest in everything around him, getting to know his sweet, laid back personality and showing him everything this world has to offer. But I won't lie when I say there is a small ache in my heart to have that little squiggly newborn back, if only to hold him for a minute and hear those sweet coos he used to make. Bittersweet I tell you.
On to the pictures...

one of the good guys

I've had little faith in men throughout my life (this has been a constant struggle for me). Since M has come into our lives I often think about this. I really feel like I'm supposed to learn something from this, by raising our son to be one of the good guys. The world needs more, that's for sure. I'm so glad that he has someone like Sean to look up to, to learn from, to strive to be like. He's going to make a certain lady very happy one day, just like his papa has made me. Nothing fills my heart with such joy than to think about these things.

“Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. Some blunders and absurdities no doubt crept in; forget them as soon as you can. Tomorrow is a new day; begin it well and serenely and with too high a spirit to be encumbered with your old nonsense. ”
